American Express Global Business Travel replaced CFO Norma Corio
with Martine Gerow, who served as CFO of Carlson Wagonlit Travel from
September 2014 to February 2017. Based in London, Gerow started June
5. CEO Doug Anderson cited her experience in multinational business-
es; she also has been CFO at French media services company SoLocal
Group and Spanish multinational food company Campofrio and has
worked at Danone, PepsiCo and BCG.
InterContinental Hotels Group will launch a new midscale brand,
priced $10 to $15 less than IHG’s Holiday Inn Express. The properties
are intended to be new construction with 95 to 100 guest rooms. The
midscale segment is a relative white space for the company, as the ex-tended-stay Candlewood Suites is its only midscale offering. Both Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express sit in the upper-midscale segment.
IHG anticipates the brand will be ready for franchising this fall and the
first hotels will begin construction in early 2018 to open in 2019.
Hilton has named David Marr SVP and global head of full-service
brands. Marr most recently served as SVP and a global brand leader
at Starwood Hotels and Resorts, where he oversaw both the Tribute
Portfolio and Sheraton Hotels & Resorts. He will report to EVP of global
brands, marketing and loyalty Jim Holthouser and will oversee Hilton’s
full-service brands, including Hilton Hotels & Resorts, Curio, Double Tree
and Tapestry Collection.
Wyndham Hotel Group has launched The Trademark Hotel
Collection, a soft brand for three- and four-star independent
hotels. Properties that join the brand will be able to leverage Wyndham’s scale, distribution, services and loyalty program. Fifty properties are poised to join the portfolio, either via commitments from
owners of existing properties or from those looking for new-construction opportunities.
Trump Hotels has launched a new midscale brand called American
Idea. The brand has three properties planned for the Mississippi Delta
area. Additionally, the company announced that the first property for its
upscale Scion will be located in Cleveland, Miss.
Red Lion Hotels Corp. has closed
73 deals in 2017: 34 during the
first quarter and 39 since April 1.
RLHC has opened 28 hotels across
16 states since January. President
of global development Roger Bloss
expects similar strength for the
second half of the year.
Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group has
appointed Ken Greene president
of the Americas. Greene previously served as CEO of Greenehouse
Consulting and has held executive
leadership roles at Delta Hotels and
Resorts and Wyndham Worldwide.
He will report to Carlson Hotels
CEO John Kidd and oversee development, full-service operations,
midscale operations, managed
hotels and technical services for
Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts has named Oliver Bonke
president and COO. Bonke will
step into the position on Sept. 1
at the company’s headquarters
in Hong Kong and will report to
Shangri-La Asia Ltd. CEO Lim
Beng Chee. He will supervise the
regional EVPs in charge of operations and the division heads
in charge of food and beverage,
sales, marketing, rooms, engineering, security and quality improvement. Bonke most recently
served as chief commercial
officer of Loews Hotels and has
held leadership roles at InterContinental Hotels Group and
Starwood Hotels and Resorts.
