Non-Negotiable: Millennials Want
Mediated Meetings Sourcing
Though online sourcing tools have transformed meetings procurement, millennials aging into the workplace are saying “no
thanks” to direct sourcing and, in particular, negotiation. Instead, they seek “self-serve” meetings and events procurement,
according to a recent Cvent survey of meetings professionals. It showed that millennials, more than their older peers, look
for efficiencies, convenience and competitive pricing from prospective venues and don’t want to engage personally to come
to a final business agreement.
Cvent’s findings won’t surprise those who follow the
influential millennials’ consumer preferences and social
attitudes. They’re smart shoppers who look for deals; they
tend toward impatience, appreciate efficiency and are the
first “digital natives”—they don’t remember a time before
technology powered their lives. A Pew Research Center
study underscored that social trust is not their strong suit.
